New York has been called “the mecca of all things art and culture” and New York City is considered one of the greatest cities in the world. As such it is home to many of the country’s best art schools including the Parsons New School of Design and the fine arts department at New York University, both of which boast many famous alumni. School of Visual Arts
The School of Visual Arts in New York City is the largest independent undergraduate art college in the United States. It has a faculty of 800 and an enrollment of 3,000. Undergraduate programs include fine arts (sculpture, video, painting, drawing, installation art, computer art and print-making), film and video, cartooning, computer art, photography, interior design, graphic design and illustration. Graduate programs include art criticism and writing, art therapy, art education, illustration as visual essay and video and related media. Degrees offered are Bachelor of Art and Bachelor of Fine Arts. Summer programs, “on the town” events, and the Visual Opinion student magazine are a few of the school’s features. Noted alumni include actor Jared Leto, lead singer of band My Chemical Romance Gerard Way and painter and filmmaker Jesse Richards.
